Written by the author of many successful philosophy textbooks, Gene Blocker's Introduction to Philosophy is simply and clearly written for the beginning student in philosophy. Organized by topics the book discusses fundamental issues in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics, and existentialism in terms accessible to today's college students. Though not a reader, many important thinkers in the history of philosophy are discussed in each chapter - Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, Mill, Sartre, and the book could well be accompanied by selections from these philosophers which the instructor could have students read from the college library's "online reserve."
The book is filled with interesting and relevant illustrations. Each chapter contains Suggestions for Further Reading and Questions for Discussion.
